If you’ve Google Chrome installed on your computer and when you install Internet Download Manager (IDM), it will install its extension into Chrome, which you need to allow, or you can enable it anytime by visiting Chrome extensions page then you can able to download files in Chrome by using IDM.
This article tells you how to install IDM integration module Chrome extension manually if you’ve not found it installed in the extensions Chrome extensions page or when the integration wasn’t worked.
First of all make sure that you are using the latest version of IDM in your computer. Open IDM and click on “Help -> Check for updates“option. If you are using latest IDM version, it’ll show “You are using the latest version of Internet Download Manager. Please check back again for updates at a later time.” message. If you are using an older version, it’ll start downloading and installing the latest version and will update your IDM to the latest version.
Upgrading IDM to the latest version may fix the integration issue and all kind of error messages as IDM team fixes known issues in newer versions automatically. Updating to latest IDM version may also fix compatibility issues as newer IDM versions come with support for new web browsers as well as newer versions of all popular web browsers.
Once you update IDM to latest version, it may also install the missing IDM Integration Module extension automatically which will integrate IDM in your browser.
Open IDM Options window and make sure the “Use advanced browser integration” option is enabled and Google Chrome is enabled under “Capture downloads from the following browsers” list as mentioned in following tutorial:
If it doesn’t work, then we’ll need to manually install IDM extension in Chrome using following steps:
1. Open Google Chrome and click on 3-dots menu. Now select “More tools -> Extensions” option.
Alternatively, you can direct open Extensions page using chrome://extensions/ URL in address bar.
2. Now open Windows Explorer (or File Explorer/This PC/Computer) and go to following folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Download Manager
3. Look for IDMGCExt.crx or IDMGCExt file.
4. Click on the IDMGCExt file and drag-n-drop the file on Google Chrome’s extensions page.
Google Chrome will show following warning message:
Extensions, apps, and themes can harm your computer. Are you sure you want to continue?
You’ll see Continue, Discard and Show all buttons. Click on Continue button.
It should add the missing IDM Integration Module extension to Chrome and you should be able to use IDM in Chrome.
In newer versions of Google Chrome, you may receive following error messages while trying to install IDM extension manually:
- Apps, extensions, and user scripts cannot be added from this website.
- Not from Chrome Web Store. This extension violates the Chrome Web Store Policy.
- Suspicious extensions disabled. To make Chrome safer, we disabled some extensions that aren’t listed in the Chrome Web Store and may have been added without your knowledge.
- Google has flagged IDM Integration as malicious and installation has been prevented.
In such case, you can install the IDM Integration Module extension from Chrome Web Store.
Open following link in Google Chrome to install IDM extension in Chrome:
Click on “Add to Chrome” button. Chrome will show you a confirmation message about what IDM Integration Module extension can do. Click on “Add extension” button.
That’s it. It’ll successfully install the required IDM Integration Module extension in Google Chrome to integrate IDM with Chrome. Now you’ll be able to use IDM in Chrome without any problems. You can also configure IDM extension in Chrome by clicking on its Details button.
